Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Spotlight – Lexington, Kentucky

The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Tour rolls into Lexington, Kentucky to Transylvania University, home of the Transylvania University Pioneers baseball team, on Sunday October 18th.

Transylvania University, founded in 1780, is the first University built in Kentucky and among the oldest in the United States and the Pioneers baseball team made an NCAA Division III Tourney Appearance in 2008.

Today’s players highlighted all hail from the Bluegrass State and all three opted to stay within the state of Kentucky to play collegiate ball.

Aaron Ochsenbein

Aaron Ochsenbein

Aaron Ochsenbein – Ochsenbein is from Lexington and graduated from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in 2014 having been a two-time academic all-state at Paul Laurence Dunbar. During his junior season, Ochsenbein posted a 0.63 ERA with 96 strikeouts.

Ochsenbein first attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout event in Georgetown, Kentucky in July of 2009 and was selected to the Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament in December of that year. Aaron attended three more National Tryout, ranging from an event in Amelia, Ohio (June ’11) to Louisville, KY (July ’10 & April ’12) where he improved his arm strength on the mound and the ability to throw strikes with his pitch repertoire.

During the October ’11 Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic, Ochsenbein worked his fastball up to 80 mph and displayed offspeed pitches that showed flashes of great potential as a freshman. In June 2012 as a sophomore, Aaron posted a fastball of 83 mph and a breaking ball – which scouts noted was his best off-speed pitch – showed good 12/6 action.

Last season as a freshman playing for the Eastern Kentucky University Colonels, Ochsenbein appeared in eight games as a reliever, collecting a save, striking out 18 batters and holding opponents to a .111 average in 11 1/3 innings pitched.

Logan Taylor

Logan Taylor

Logan Taylor – Taylor, a 2013 graduate from Lexington Catholic High School was a 2013 All-State selection and lettered three years at Lexington Catholic under the guidance of coach Taylor Brooks. As a senior, Taylor hit .341 with 16 RBI and 22 stolen bases.

Taylor attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout & College PREP event in Indianapolis, IN back in September of 2011, followed by an Under Armour Team One South event in July, 2012.

After graduation, Taylor took his skills to the University of Louisville, where, in his freshman season of 2014, made 23 starts in 58 games overall, hitting .238. Taylor’s play as a freshman gave the Cardinals some flashes of his potential. On April 15, 2014 against No. 19 Kentucky, Taylor singled, walked twice, stole a base and scored once. Twelve days later, he delivered a two-run single in a win over University of Connecticut to complete the series sweep.

This past season, Taylor broke out in a big way, hitting .358 this season with three doubles, a homer, 13 RBI and eight stolen bases in 14 starts and 60 total appearances.
