UNC Commit Austin Beck Registers 97 mph Exit Velocity

At the Burlington, NC Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout on Saturday April 10, 2016, 2017 OF Austin Beck (a UNC commit from Arcadia, NC) registered a 97 mph exit velocity, ran 6.62 in the 60 yard dash, and posted 91 mph raw velocity.

BF-PocketRadar_4.10Beck’s 97 mph exit velocity was the highest we saw at any of the five events held nationally across the weekend, and places him just inside the top ten among 2017 graduates. His 91 mph raw velocity enters him into a tie for fifth place, while his 6.62 60 yard dash figures just inside the top 25.

A right-handed hitter listed at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, Beck offered visual evidence to support his impressive exit velocity. That evidence came in the form of three home runs in twelve BP swings with a wood bat — with each of the twelve noted as “hard contact.” Not surprisingly, a note taken directly from his scout card reads, “ball comes off bat differently.” He earned high marks for his arm strength, fielding ability, and hitting ability in additional to his previously mentioned raw power and speed.

2017 OF/RHP Joshua Simpson

Just four ticks behind Beck were 2017 OF Zachary DeLoach (a Texas A&M commit from Lewisville, TX) and 2017 OF/RHP Joshua Simpson (Allen, TX) at 93 mph. DeLoach, a left-handed hitter listed at 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, added 94 mph raw velocity and ran 6.56 in the 60 yard dash. 93 mph exit velocity from the 6-foot-2, 170 pound right-handed hitting Simpson represents a six mph improvement from his previous high of 87, and he also trimmed more a tenth of his best 60 yard dash with a move down from 6.76 to 6.61.

2017 OF Brannon Mondragon (Davidson, NC) and 2017 C Jake Ryan (Dallas, TX) came in at 90 mph, followed by six more 2017 graduates that made the cut on the number at 89 mph. Among the group at 89 were Huntington Beach (CA) HS teammates 2017 RHP/C Hagen Danner and 2017 1B/LHP Nick Pratto, fresh off a championship at the recent USA Baseball National High School Invitational.

LHP/OF Beau Swimmer (Dumas, TX) posted the highest exit velocity among 2018 graduates, with a mark of 90 mph. Swimmer also qualified among class leaders with a 6.69 60 yard dash, and 84 mph raw velocity.

A few ticks back at 87 mph were 2018 catchers Landon Choboy (Raleigh, NC) and Cameron English (Moreno Valley, CA), along with 2018 outfielders Will Spencer (Dallas, TX) and Jacob Simons (Rockwood, MI).

3B Demetri Petrides (Flower Mound, TX) turned in the highest 2019 exit velocity at 86 mph. He also ran 6.96 in the 60 yard dash and missed qualification by just one mph at 83.

Just two back at 84 mph was C Joseph Currington (Terrell, TX), with 6-foot-2, 195 pound 1B Daniel Prevost (Ellicott City, MD) just off his bumper at 83.
