The Baseball Factory takes on Omaha and the College World Series

The Omaha Pro Select Training Camp & Tournament can be called a complete success. Three teams (Red, White, and Blue) compiled of Baseball Factory players accumulated a 10-5 record in the 2006 Omaha Triple Crown tournament. All three teams played well throughout the tournament with the White team finishing 5th with a 4-1 overall record. The Red and Blue teams each went 3-2. In this competitive 36-team field the Baseball Factory was proud to have three teams that excelled throughout the tournament.

Here is a rundown of the entire week of training, tournament play, and other activities that the players for all three teams enjoyed.

Sunday
The Baseball Factory teams arrived in Omaha. The players and coaches got the chance to see a College World Series game between the University of North Carolina and Clemson University.

Monday/Tuesday
The three teams practiced and trained both days at Iowa Western Community College in preparation for the tournament starting on Wednesday. To help with instruction the athletes were filmed on Monday so the coaches could go over the film with the players and work on correcting any weaknesses.

Wednesday – Tournament Day One
On the teams first day of games winning was routine. Each team played a double header with the White team earning a #4 seed in the championship round by going 2-0 in the first round of pool play. The Red team earned a solid #10 seed, by going 2-0 in their games. The Blue team, which went 1-1 in the first round, earned a respectable #14 seed out of the 36 team field. This proved that the Baseball Factory teams were all in the top tier of the tournament.

Thursday – Tournament Day Two
The second day of competition did not treat the Baseball Factory teams as well as day one with only team White coming away with a victory. This round became an elimination round, therefore both the Blue and Red teams played their final two games in the consolation bracket due to their losses. Team White continued their quest for the championship. During the evening the players got to see the semifinal game between Rice and eventual champs Oregon State in the College World Series.

Friday/Saturday – Tournament Day Three/Four
The three teams rebounded from a slow day two with a 4-2 record to close out the tournament. The Blue team, which was under .500 coming into the day, won two straight games to finish at an impressive 3-2. The Red team split their final two games also finishing with a 3-2 record. The only team that remained in the winner’s bracket was the White team who split their last two games with a loss then a win to close out the tournament.  They finished with a strong 4-1 record, which put them in 5th place in the overall standings.

Sunday
Sunday was the final day of baseball for the participants at the Omaha Pro Select Training Camp & Tournament. The athletes practiced and worked on weaknesses that occurred during the tournament. They also played in some intra-squad scrimmages. Overall the entire experience was filled with great weather, instruction, exposure, and of course baseball.

Key Players
Michael Weisberg – Michael had a very impressive tournament. This left handed pitcher from Deerfield, Illinois excelled on the mound as well as at the plate where he hit a home run and a double in one game to help team White achieve a 5th place result.

Cody Brumbaugh – Cody had one of the most impressive games in the tournament for Baseball Factory. Cody pitched a complete game in a 2-1 win for the Red team over the Nevada Warriors.

Lance Ray – Lance, a 6’0″, 165lb. first baseman, was consistent in the field, but where he left his mark was at the plate. Lance consistently hit the ball well throughout the tournament to help the Blue team achieve a 3-2 final record.
