Senior Quance does it all for Black Knights

This article is taken from Rome NY Sentinel Online. Senior Justin Quance is a member of Baseball Factory’s Exclusive program. Justin will attend Wright State University in the fall. Baseball Factory wishes him the best of luck in all of his future endeavours.

The Rome Free Academy baseball team is picking up were it left off last year, and one of the main reasons for the Black Knights’ early success this season has been the play of senior Justin Quance.

The second-year varsity player is a pitcher and utilityman for the two-time defending Section III champion Black Knights, who have won six straight games, and are 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the Onondaga High School League.

“He’s the kind of kid that has what we call a rubber arm. He throws and throws and throws and he can throw the ball really hard and doesn’t get any fatigue in his arm. He’s going to see a lot of innings for us,” RFA fourth-year coach Bob Corredine said. “He has improved this year from last year on the mound and at the plate. This year he’s being more selected with the pitches he has. He’s a free swinger, but he’s being more patient. He’s an excellent fastball hitter and probably has the quickest bat on the team.”

The 5-foot-11, 172-pound Quance has a 1-1 record this season with a perfect ERA of 0.00, not allowing an earned run in eight innings of work. At the plate, the 17-year-old is batting .300 and has an on-base percentage of .462. He has collected one home run, one double, three RBIs and four walks.

“I try to do my job wherever coach wants me and whatever he needs,” said Quance of being an utilityman. “I really like the game. I love to play everyday.”
