Four Named All-GSAC

This article was taken from the Azusa Pacific University website. Former Baseball Factory Exclusive and national tournament team player, Steven Vogt was named to the All-GSAC team.  Congratulations to Vogt who enjoyed an impressive debut season.  Vogt will play on the Baltimore Pride this summer, a Baseball Factory sponsored team in the Clark Griffith Collegiate Summer League.

AZUSA, Calif. — Four Azusa Pacific athletes-Glenn Hedgpeth, Robbie Lindsey, Cameron Radonich and Stephen Vogt-were named to the 2004 All-GSAC Baseball Team, which was released earlier today.
Azusa Pacific joined GSAC champion Point Loma Nazarene and California Baptist each with 4 representatives on the 17-member team. Point Loma’s Mike Ekstrom and Biola’s Carl Galloway were named co-Players of the Year, and the Sea Lions’ Scott Sarver was named Coach of the Year in his final season at the helm.

It is the 11th time in the GSAC’s 18-year history that Azusa Pacific had at least 4 players named to the All-GSAC team.

In just one season at Azusa Pacific, Hedgpeth appeared in 47 games and hit .319 with a team- and GSAC-leading 16 home runs. He leads the team and GSAC with 66 RBIs, 11 more than Lindsey, who finished second with 55. He also scored 32 runs and had 12 doubles.

Hedgpeth, a transfer from NAIA-member Lubbock Christian (Texas), was named GSAC and NAIA Region II Player of the Week April 5 after going 6-for-16 (.375) with 5 runs, a double, 4 home runs, 13 RBI and a stolen base in 4 games. He finished the season with 6 hits, 3 home runs and 13 RBIs in the final 4 games.

One of the finest players in Azusa Pacific history, Lindsey earns his second award, becoming just the 13th player in program history to earn a pair of All-GSAC awards. In 46 games this year, Lindsey finished fourth in the GSAC with a .382 average and tied with Galloway for the conference lead with 71 hits, while leading the GSAC with an Azusa Pacific single-season record 23 doubles. He was also second with 55 RBIs and scored 41 runs.

Lindsey is one of just 2 Cougars ever to record at least 200 career hits, finishing second with 234. The Cougars’ all-time leader with 52 career doubles, Lindsey is also the only Cougar ever to get at least 200 hits, 140 runs and 125 RBIs and is the only Cougar to appear in the career top 5 in hits (2nd-234), at-bats (2nd-677), runs (4th-140), RBIs (3rd-133), doubles (1st-52) and total bases (3rd-327).

One of 2 four-year Cougars named to this year’s team, Radonich was named to his first-ever all-conference team. One of 4 outfielders named to the team, Radonich was sixth in the GSAC with a .374 average. He finished fourth with 68 hits and second with 45 runs, and he also added 15 doubles, 7 home runs, a pair of triples and 38 RBIs all as the Cougars’ leadoff hitter.

Defensively, Radonich was near-perfect as he committed just 1 error in 103 chances and 7 assists from centerfield. He also hit safely in each of the final 5 games and 11 of the final 13.

One of 2 freshmen named to the team, Vogt received one of 2 nods at catcher to become the first freshman in Azusa Pacific history and just the seventh in GSAC history to be named to the baseball all-conference team. He finished second in the GSAC with a .431 average, one of just 3 players to hit over .400 for the season and was third in the GSAC with 69 hits, third with 20 doubles, fourth with 49 RBIs and tied with Lindsey for sixth with 41 runs.

Vogt had 21 multi-hit games, 8 games with at least 3 hits and a pair of 4-hit games as he finished the season with a 30-game hitting streak, just 4 games shy of the Azusa Pacific record set in 1972. He hit safely in 35 of 40 games this year and amazingly reached base safely in each of the 40 games he played in.

In addition to the 4 all-conference selections, senior Billy Gwinn was named to the Academic All-GSAC team.
