Four former Baseball Factory players have been selected to participate in the 2004 Futures Game at the MLB All-Star Game festivities. Slated to take place July 11 at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas, this invite only game features the top U.S. and International Minor League Prospects.

Baseball Factory congratulates Gavin Floyd, B.J. Upton, David Wright and Delmon Young on receiving this honor.  All four of these players have participated in Baseball Factory’s All American Weekend at Dodgertown, Spring Training Home of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Drafted in the first round of the 2001 amateur draft, Gavin Floyd is currently a pitcher for the AA Reading Phillies.  Floyd is 3-4 on the season with a 2.39 ERA and 63 strikeouts over 79 innings pitched.

Last season, Floyd was 7-8 for the Clearwater Phillies and finished with a 3.00 ERA and 115 strikeouts. For his efforts, Floyd was voted a Florida League All Star and rated the second best prospect in the minor league system.

B.J. Upton is one of eight infielders on the Futures roster.  The shortstop was a first round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2002.

Upton has spent the 2004 season with the Durham Bulls where is currently batting .299 with 32 R, 43 H, 7 2B, 7 HR, 19 RBI and 9 SB.  The 37-33 Bulls are sitting in first place atop the South Division of the International League.

In 2003, Upton started with the Single-A Charleston Riverdogs but joined the Double-A Orlando Rays to close the season.  Then 19 years old, Upton was the youngest member of the 2003 Topps Class All Star team and was named the top shortstop prospect among all minor leaguers.

Third baseman David Wright has been a member of the New York Mets organization since 2001 when he was selected 38th overall in the draft.

Wright began the 2004 season in Double A where he hit .368 in 60 games before joining the Triple A Norfolk Tides.  Since his promotion, Wright is batting .353 and has turned in 7 R, 12 H, 2 HR, 4 RBI and 1 SB.

Delmon Young was the first overall pick in 2003 by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.  He is currently a right fielder for the 41-30 Single A Charleston River Dogs. He is currently batting .277 with 39 Runs, 74 H, 12 2B, 4 3B, 9 HR, 49 RBI and 5 SB.

Along with being selected for the Futures Game, Young will participate in the 2004 All Star Home Run Derby which will take place prior to the Annual South Atlantic League All Star Game.

Baseball Factory wishes Floyd, Upton, Wright and Young the best of luck in the 2004 Futures Game.
