Former Baseball Factory Recruiting Consultant, Jim Spooner, Passes Away
On Sunday, former Baseball Factory College Recruiting Consultant, Jim Spooner, passed away at the age of 62 after a long battle with leukemia. Jim, or “Coach” as many of us referred to him, was the longtime head coach at the University of West Florida where he won 688 games before retiring in 2006. Coach Spooner came on board with Baseball Factory in a part-time capacity after finishing his college coaching career. He assisted many of our high school players navigate the college recruiting process during his time as a consultant. Even though his time with Baseball Factory was short, he had a huge impact not only on our staff, but also on the players and parents that he spoke with on a regular basis.
In late August, the University of West Florida dedicated their field in Coach Spooner’s honor. He was also inducted into the Pensacola Sports Association Hall of Fame in 2006. Coach Spooner is survived by his wife, Carolyn, and daughters Lindsay and Jamie. “Coach” was an amazing person, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
