FACTORY SCOUTING REPORT St. Louis, MO B.A.T.S. Video Scouting Session & PUMA National Tournament Team Tryout

EVENT DATE: 9/11/05

LOCATION: Washington University

Top Prospects

The Top Prospects were selected by Dan Mooney (Assistant Director of Scouting) and Andy Ferguson (Director of Scouting) based on their performance at the event. The ranking is based on their status as college prospects, and is relative to the entire group of players we saw on the day – we now consider underclassmen in our selection process.

IMPORTANT – We list players at the position(s) where we feel they are prospects. This may result in a player being listed at a position they did not play for us, or having a position they did play for us go unlisted. As usual, all references to “average” are based on high school standards.

1. Aaron Blunt, LHP/1B, 2007 – Bonne Terre, MO (North County HS), 6-3, 165, L/L. Long, lean frame with good leverage. Arm was quick and strong, and arm stroke was clean – over top slot. Fastball topped at 84 mph, had good pop and tail – sink action was present from the stretch. Good downward action on his breaking ball, flashed depth and sharp action when he snapped it. Change-up is young, but showed potential. Does not take full advantage of his leverage, sinks into his post leg some – plane and life on pitches stand to improve quite a bit. Actions were smooth at 1B, and his arm showed well across the diamond. Showed life in his hands at the plate, drove a ball well to center field. Good upside on the mound, with two way potential. 7.37 60 yard dash.

2. Matt Tracy, LHP/OF/1B, 2007 – St. Louis, MO (Christian Brothers College HS), 6-3, 170, L/L. Another leverage bodied LHP. Tracy had a low effort, loose arm stroke – really liked the way his arm worked on his fastball. Delivery was balanced, maintained good body control and good direction. Breaking ball was a little loopy – grip looked tight, caused his arm to drag. Still had decent rolling action, but has potential to be much better. Change-up was near well above average, thrown with his FB arm stroke – pitch had plus sink with good tail. Also featured an easy stroke at the plate. Good barrel accuracy, made hard contact through his round – drove some balls to right field, gap type power. A solid defensive OF – had good angles, footwork and actions. 7.90 60 yard dash – moved better than that, but still may consider move to 1B. Good two way potential.

3. Dominic Marchesi, LHP/1B, 2006 – Bridgeton, MO (Pattonville HS), 6-0, 180, L/L. Marchesi showed strength in his body, especially his lower half. Topped out at 84mph with a loose wrist and plenty of extension on the front side. He stayed back when breaking his hands and his overall delivery had good tempo. He had solid off speed stuff, which complimented his lively FB. CB showed plus depth and his CH had fade and good action. He still has room for improvement in his finish – glove side flies open which gives him an even lower arm slot. We also saw him take BP and he shows two-way potential. His hands have life through the zone and he used his body strength. His stroke lacks rhythm right now but when he centers it the ball jumps off his bat. We recommend he gets some work at 1B because his bat will play. 7.43 60 yard dash.
