FACTORY SCOUTING REPORT Babson Park, MA B.A.T.S. Video Scouting Session & Rookie Session

EVENT DATE: 9/18/05

LOCATION: Govoni Baseball Field, Babson College

Top Prospects

The Top Prospects were selected by Jim Gemler (Director of On-Field Sessions) and Buddy Custer (Underclassmen Exclusive Director) based on their performance at the event. The ranking is based on their status as college prospects, and is relative to the entire group of players we saw on the day.

IMPORTANT – We list players at the position(s) where we feel they are prospects. This may result in a player being listed at a position they did not play for us, or having a position they did play for us go unlisted. As usual, all references to “average” are based on high school standards.

1. Eric Pelletier, 3B, 2006 – Beverly, MA (Bishop Fenwick HS), 6-0, 170, R/R. Has an athletic body and he showed athleticism in the workout, more terms of body control than speed. He showed the best at the plate. Had good prep and load, kept his hands inside the ball well, and held his ground well throughout the swing. He could still use more rhythm in his load to help shorten the path. At 3B he had active feet, was very aggressive, and showed an idea for proper footwork through the baseball. Arm strength is biggest area for improvement – arm slot is first area to address in order to create more backspin on throws.

2. Dan Walsh, 3B/RHP, 2006 – Dorchester, MA (Catholic Memorial HS), 6-3, 185, L/R. Showed the best at the plate – his left handed stroke had good plane and he was able to get some lift and drive the ball. He created leverage with his lower half and produced plus bat speed to get the barrel through the zone effectively. He also showed well on the mound – he flashed some arm strength topping out at 84 mph. He has a good arm but is a little stiff through his delivery and aggressive with his leg lift. If he smoothes out his delivery and gains some rhythm to his separation and finish there is room for him to throw harder. He shows the most room for improvement at 3B – he has efficient hands and exchange, but he needs to work on his lateral range and footwork.
