Ethan Thompson Ties Top Mark Among 2019’s With 93 mph Exit Velo

BF-PocketRadar_4.17At the beginning of April, only four 2019 graduates had posted an exit velocity of at least 90 mph, and now, within a two week span, we have seen two more enter the leaderboard and vault to the top. The second one came this past Sunday at the Tallahassee, FL Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout when Ethan Thompson posted a 93 mph exit velo.

Ethan is the starting 3B for the varsity team at Sante Fe High School in Alachua, FL. This versatile player can also catch and play the middle infield, though his calling card is his bat as evidenced by the impressive exit velocity.

Another 2019 graduate, Brennan Keil (Ormond Beach, FL), made his way onto the leaderboard at the Tallahassee event. The big (6’6”/195) 3B/RHP recorded an exit velocity of 87 mph and also threw 84 mph off the mound to qualify in that category. One more freshman at the event made the exit velocity leaderboard: Dalton Smith, who traveled down from Valdosta, GA and recorded 85 mph.

Two players from the 2017 class posted big numbers to make the leaderboard. Brady Smith (Niceville, FL) showed outstanding tools that included 90 mph exit velocity and raw arm strength of 87 mph. Despite being a primary infielder, he also posted a 1.95 pop time from behind the plate. The University of Florida commit has really improved since we saw him in 2013! Fellow 2017 Jake Nemith (Pace, FL) was impressive at the workout as well, making two leaderboard appearances with 89 mph exit velocity and 88 mph raw velocity.

2018 OF Josh Bedell-Murray (Fernandina Beach, FL) from Yulee High School showed an impressive set of tools across the board. His 85 mph exit velocity qualified for his class, as did his 84 mph arm strength and his 6.93 60-yard dash time.

Dane Goodman (Ross, CA), a 2018 outfielder from Redwood HS, showed well in last fall’s Under Armour So Cal Classic Underclass Tournament and he was even better at the workout last Sunday. He posted the top exit velocity at the event with 91 mph, firmly placing him on the 2018 class leaderboard. He also qualified with a 6.96 time in the 60. 2018 catcher Justin Truong (San Jose, CA) joined Goodman on the exit velo leaderboard recording 85 mph while also throwing to 2B in 2.01 to post his name there.

The 2019 class had a strong overall showing in California with high school teammates from Weston Ranch HS both posting 84 mph exit velocities. 2B Amier Bowen (Stockton, CA) and C Carlos Drain (Stockton, CA) both showed bat speed and made the leaderboard. Fellow 2019 grad Joe Stassi (Piedmont, CA) showed promising tools as well, with an 82 mph exit velo and a pop time of 2.25.
