Eight Additional Players Selected to the 2013 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game

Baseball Factory Adds to Growing Roster of the Nation’s Top High School Baseball Players to Showcase
Their Talents on August 24 at Wrigley Field in Chicago

Baltimore, MD – Under Armour, Inc. (NYSE:UA) the Baltimore, MD-based leader in sports performance apparel, footwear and accessories, today announced that they have added eight additional players to the roster for the 2013 Under Armour® All-America Baseball Game, powered by Baseball Factory, which will be played at Wrigley Field on Saturday, August 24 at 1:30 p.m. CST. This will mark the sixth year of the Under Armour All-America Game, which will air live nationally on MLB Network and showcase 36 of the best high school players.

The players are selected by a committee of Baseball Factory scouts and will compete in an American vs. National team match-up. The Under Armour All-America Baseball Game is the culmination of a four-day baseball celebration, including a formal workout for Major League Baseball (MLB) scouts and a homerun derby. Twelve-year MLB veteran and MLB Network analyst Bill Ripken will return as a team manager opposite former MLB player, manager and coach and current MLB Network analyst Larry Bowa, who will manage in the Under Armour All-America Baseball Game for the third time. Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. will serve as the official game ambassador.

The eight players who have most recently committed to compete in the 2013 Under Armour All-America Game include:

  • Darius Day – OF, 5-11, 180, Simeon Career Academy, IL
  • Joe Gatto – RHP, 6-5, 210, St. Augustine Prep, NJ
  • Monte' Harrison – OF, 6-3, 200, Lee's Summit West High School, MO
  • Grant Holmes – RHP, 6-2, 210, Conway, SC
  • Michael Kopech – RHP, 6-4, 195, Mount Pleasant High School, TX
  • Chase Vallot – C, 6-0, 200, St. Thomas More High School, LA
  • Cameron Varga – RHP, 6-3, 205, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, OH
  • Marcus Wilson – OF, 6-3, 180, Junipero Serra School, CA

"With summer baseball in full swing, our scouting network is hard at work scouring the globe to find the best high school players,” said Steve Bernhardt, Executive VP at Baseball Factory and Chairman of the Under Armour All-America Game Selection Committee. “We continue to evaluate thousands of athletes, and as part of our search we have identified eight additional prospects for the Under Armour All-America Game.  These players have made a strong impression on our staff and we are very excited to add them to the list of talented players for this year's game at Wrigley Field."

The first nine players to be named to the 2013 Under Armour All-America game roster were announced on January 18, 2013 during the opening ceremony of the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament, followed by an additional five players who were announced on April 18, and three additional players on May 31. Since the games inception in 2008, 151 of the 171 draft eligible players from the Under Armour All-America Game were selected in the MLB Amateur Draft including 42 first round picks.  Top players that went on to sign professional contracts in 2013 include Clint Frazier (2013 No.5 Overall Pick, Cleveland Indians); Trey Ball (2013 No.7 Overall Pick, Boston Red Sox); Austin Meadows (2013 No.9 Overall Pick, Pittsburgh Pirates); Dominic Smith (2013 No.11 Overall Pick, New York Mets); JP Crawford (2013 No.16 Overall Pick, Philadelphia Phillies); Nick Ciuffo (2013 No.21 Overall Pick, Tampa Bay Rays); Hunter Harvey (2013 No.22 Overall Pick, Baltimore Orioles); and Billy McKinney (2013 No.24 Overall Pick, Oakland Athletics).
