Conversations with College Coaches: Saint Michael’s
Check out the latest installment of Conversations with College Coaches. This week Dan Mooney sat down with Head Coach Paul Morgan of Saint Michael's College to talk about this schools program.
1. How long have you been coaching? How long at you current college or university?
Coaching for 6 years. 5th year at Saint Michael's.
2. Who are some of your mentors or coaches that you look up to?
Mark Leavitt (Stetson University), Perry Bove (former Saint Michael's coach)
3. What is the first thing about your school and program that you’d want a recruit to know about?
School location (Burlington, VT)
4. What qualities do you look for in a prospect on the field? Off the field?
On Field: Actions, Velocity, Results on field. Off Field: Confident, Socialable
5. How has video helped your recruiting?
Allowed me to see players without having to travel as frequently.
6. Do you recruit from Junior Colleges?
No
7. Can you break down your fall practice schedule? What will you try to accomplish?
Lots of competition. Variations of games involving situations. Makes players comfortable with executing team strategies. Time for players to win jobs, earn playing time.
8. Do you have a strength and conditioning coach?
No
9. Anything planned for your facilities (upgrades, changes, etc.)?
Mound and infield improvements are in progress. New dugouts/press box also a possibility.
10. Is there anything you would like to add about your assistant coaches, recruits, parents, or program that we have not asked you about?
Saint Michael's is a real baseball family. Our program has struggled in the past, but we are back in the NE-10 Conference and making big strides moving forward.
