Conversations with College Coaches: Nicholls State University
Dan Mooney, our Senior Director of College Recruiting, recently caught up with Head Coach Seth Thibodeaux from Nicholls State University. Nicholls State University is located in Thibodaux, LA and is part of the Division I Southland Conference.
1. How long have you been coaching? How long at you current college or university?
I am going into year 10 as a coach and year 3 as head coach at Nicholls State
2. Who are some of your mentors or coaches that you look up to?
I looked up to several coaches growing up in this profession but none more than the guy I played for at William Carey, Coach Bobby Halford
3. What is the first thing about your school and program that you’d want a recruit to know about?
The people in this area are amazing and extremely friendly
4. What qualities do you look for in a prospect on the field? Off the field?
I love players that play extremely hard and their uniforms are always dirty, and I like my players to be first class young men off of the field
5. How has video helped your recruiting?
Video is good but I much prefer to sees player in person
6. Do you recruit from Junior Colleges?
I recruit from junior colleges upon need. I coached and played juco ball so I enjoy recruiting them.
7. Can you break down your fall practice schedule? What will you try to accomplish?
Our fall is when we try to get our players to understand our style and we try to create an identity as a club. We try to install toughness in the fall as well.
8. Do you have a strength and conditioning coach?
Our strength coach is Brian Thomas who came up under Gayle Hatch, former US Olympic Strength Coach.
9. Anything planned for your facilities (upgrades, changes, etc.)?
We are in the process of building and sinking new dugouts as well as a new entrance to stadium and new press box with suites. Also building baseball clubhouse, offices, indoor hitting facility over the next year.
