Baseball Factory’s Coach Rick Sofield Promoted to Big League Team
Baseball Factory would like to congratulate Coach Rick Sofield on his recent promotion within the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. After serving as manager for the franchise’s Class-A affiliate in 2012, the West Virginia Power, Sofield will now coach first base on the Major League level. Rick will also coach outfielders and base running in his new position with the Pirates.
Sofield is familiar with the Major Leagues after serving as the Field Coordinator for the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Montreal Expos. He also played three years in the majors after being drafted in the first round by the Minnesota Twins. Sofield’s coaching and managerial career has included head coaching jobs with the University of Utah and University of South Carolina Beufort, and an assistant coaching job at the University of South Carolina.
In addition to his work on the professional and collegiate level, Sofield serves as a Special Advisor to Baseball Factory. In this role, Sofield serves as a coach at many Baseball Factory player development events throughout the year including: the Arizona Fall Classic, Baseball Factory World Series at Pirate City, Omaha National World Series, and Cape Cod Select Training. His time with Baseball Factory and impact on amateur players in the program has been second to none.
We would like to wish Coach Sofield the very best at his new position with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He will join Baseball Factory alumni Josh Harrison and Casey McGehee as the Pirates continue their effort to produce a winning campaign.
