Baseball Factory Alumni Selected to Baseball America’s Cape Cod Baseball League Top 30 Prospects List

CAPE COD—Baseball America recently announced their Top 30 Prospects from the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) for 2010. The CCBL is the premier summer collegiate baseball league in the country and is celebrating 115 years as an organization. The league’s high level of competition provides its players with an experience similar to high-A Minor League Baseball and creates a platform for them to perform in front of professional scouts.

Baseball Factory has a deep history and a close relationship with the CCBL as a proud sponsor of the league. In addition, the Cape Cod Pro Select Training program, operated by Baseball Factory, takes place at Spillane Field, home to the Wareham Gatemen of the CCBL. The event provides high school players with an opportunity to improve their skills in the same environment as some of the nation’s top-tier college players.  Cape Cod also played host to the Under Armour All-America Game from 2005-2007, formerly the Cape Cod High School Classic.  As of April 2010, 37 Baseball Factory and Team One players from the CCBL went on to play in the Major Leagues.

It is always great to see players who worked with Baseball Factory become successful at the next level. Over 30,000 Baseball Factory alumni have continued their successful baseball careers in college, and every season some are recognized for their hard work by being selected to play on one of the ten CCBL teams.

This year ten of Baseball America’s CCBL Top 30 Prospects worked with Baseball Factory during their high school careers. Since the number of Baseball Factory alumni in the league is steadily rising, it is no surprise that one third of the CCBL Top 30 Prospects were a part of the Baseball Factory family. Take Vanderbilt University Junior, Jack Armstrong, who is still making a name for himself in the Cape Cod area. The right-handed pitcher from Florida participated in the 2007 Cape Cod Classic and is currently ranked as the #23 prospect in the CCBL. This past summer, Armstrong pitched for the Wareham Gatemen. He had four wins and three losses during the regular season and tallied 41 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.96. Baseball Factory is proud to see Armstrong back in Cape Cod succeeding at the collegiate level in the same way that he did at the high school level.

Sophomores Brian Goodwin and Deven Marrero both competed in the 2008 Under Armour All-America Game, powered by Baseball Factory. Goodwin, an outfielder at the University of North Carolina, is ranked #6 on the CCBL Top 30 Prospects list. This past summer, Goodwin played for the Harwich Mariners. He batted .281 which led the team. Deven Marrero, a shortstop at Arizona State, comes in at #7 on the Top 30 list. This past summer, Marrero helped the Cotuit Kettleers win the CCBL championship. He batted .306 which also led his team.

Other notable Baseball Factory alumni to make Baseball America’s CCBL Top 30 Prospect list include: George Springer (#2, OF), Matt Barnes (#3, RHP), Zach Wilson (#15, OF/3B), Jason Esposito (#16, 3B), Logan Verrett (#19, RHP), Ricky Oropesa (#27, 1B/3B), and Andy Burns (#30, 3B).

Baseball Factory would like to congratulate these standout players on their continued success at the next level! We look forward to more outstanding accomplishments in their future.
