Baseball Factory 2015 MLB Draft Coverage – Command

Lately, more organizations are valuing command in young pitchers. Guys who can hit spots with multiple pitches at a young age, will likely continue to do the same as they mature.

Juan Hillman, Cole Sands and Kyle Molnar are all high school pitchers with advanced command.

Hillman, a left-hander from Olympia High School in Florida, had another outstanding season, showing off his athletic and repeatable delivery to pound the strike zone consistently with his three pitches.

He has nice command of his fastball, which sits in the low 90’s, a curveball with sharp break and depth as well as a changeup.

Sands is another pitcher with a three-pitch mix, who spots his fastball well with a good downward angle and has great confidence in his changeup which he keeps at the bottom of the zone or below depending on the count. His changeup is just as good as his fastball; more consistency and command with the pitch

Cole has an idea of how to work on the mound, working quickly with his up-tempo delivery and has good size for a high school pitcher at 6’3″ 205 pounds.

Finally, Molnar, a stud pitcher from southern California at Aliso Niguel High School in Aliso Viejo, is an all-around athlete and pounds the strike zone with his fastball that sits comfortably in the low 90’s.

He also has a three-pitch arsenal that projects well; his breaking-ball shows tight rotation and his third pitch, a changeup, is just as good.

All three athletes will have great success at the next level as their command and overall stuff will play well against advanced hitters.
