Alumni Impact: Under Armour All-Americans

Division I

Arizona State’s freshman LHP Ryan Kellog (2011 Under Armour All-America Game) made history last week when he became just the ninth player in school history to throw a no-hitter.  Kellog struck out three, holding a perfect game into the seventh inning until Oregen State reached base on an error.  The no-hitter earned Ryan Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honors as well NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week recognition and Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week.

Cole Irvin (2011 Under Armour All-America Game) is off to a great start for Oregon. The true freshman has posted a 3.69 ERA with a record of 4-1 and the Ducks have won five of the six games he’s started. Cole is part of the strong pitching rotation that’s propelled Oregon to a 19-6 start.

Following an outstanding freshman campaign at Southern Miss, Mason Robbins (2010 Under Armour All-America Game) is continuing his success at the plate with another solid start this season.  The Eagles OF/P is batting .311, with 28 hits, four doubles, and thirteen RBI’s.  He ranks among the top five in every major offensive category for Southern Miss and is leading the team in triples (2).

Bobby Wahl (2009 Under Armour All-America Game) is off to a spectacular start for Mississippi, leading the staff with six wins in as many appearances with a 1.67 ERA and 36K’s. He’s helped the Rebels to a 22-4 start on the year.

Although he will start the season with Triple-A Toledo, Nick Castellanos (2009 Under Armour All-America Game) made a great impression during his time with the big league club this spring.  Considered to be one of the Tigers’ top prospects, the converted outfielder put up impressive offensive numbers.  In 15 games, Castellanos hit .360 with two 2B, a HR and six RBI’s.

Fellow alumnus Jameson Taillon (2009 Under Armour All-America Game) also joined the Major League club this spring. He saw limited time, but impressed the Pirates with his maturity as well as his pitching ability. The RHP threw two innings in one appearance, giving up one run on one hit. Taillon also represented Canada in this year’s World Baseball Classic where he made one start and threw four innings.

Orioles first-round draft pick Kevin Gausman (2009 Under Armour All-America Game) really impressed his new club in his first camp.  He appeared in seven games, posting a 3.94 ERA and 17K’s.  Though Gausman is expected to start the season at Double-A, there have been indications from Orioles front office that he could see the big leagues at some point this season.
