Alumni Impact: Early Recognition

Vanderbilt’s Kevin Ziomek (2009 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament, 2008 Baseball Factory Premium Video Program) was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week after his second consecutive complete game victory, this time over #15 Oregon. In his last two starts, Ziomek has allowed three hits and given up one run while striking out 28.

Trey Killian (2011 Under Armour All-America Game), of Arkansas, was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after pitching seven no-hit innings in an 8-2 victory over San Diego State. The freshman retired the first 17 batters he faced, striking out seven in the game.

Richie Reilly (2008 Baseball Factory Accelerated Hitting Weekend, 2008 Baseball Factory Premium Video Program) of Northwood University is currently leading all of NAIA in RBIs. He has already been named Sun Conference Player of the Week this season and is hitting .381 with 11 doubles, one triple and 35 RBI’s.

The CSU-Bakersfield program is off to a 10-5 start thanks to several contributions from Factory alumni. Jeff McKenzie (2008 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) was named WAC Pitcher of the Week for his nine inning complete game shutout of UC-Davis. On the season McKenzie is 3-1 with a 1.93 ERA. Also helping on the mound is Jonathan Montoya (2007 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament, 2007 Team One West, 2006 Team One Futures), who is 2-1 with a 1.64 ERA. Two-way performer Dylan Christensen (2007 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) has had an impressive first few weeks, hitting .414 with four doubles, two triples, one home run and 15 RBI’s while also recording two saves in seven appearances on the mound. Also contributing with their bats are Cael Brockmeyer (2009 Team One West, 2008 Dodgertown World Series, 2008 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) and Oscar Sanay (2008-09 Team One West, 2008 Baseball Factory National Team at USA 16U Championships, 2008 Baseball Factory Premium Video Program). Brockmeyer is hitting .306 with two triples, two home runs and 14 RBIs while Sanay’s early line is a .302 average, two doubles, one triple, and nine RBI’s.

Central Arizona College RHP Jordan Kipper (2010-11 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament, 2009 Under Armour Southwest Tournament, 2009 Team One West, 2009 Team One Futures) has been a perfect 5-0 on the mound so far this season, including a nine-inning shutout of Gateway CC where he struck out nine.

Justin Garza (2010 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) of Cal State Fullerton was named the Big West Pitcher of the Week and he may well be the best freshman in the nation at this point in the season. His latest start was a win over Texas A&M in which he threw seven scoreless innings. For the season Garza is 4-0 with a 0.95 ERA while holding opponents to a .176 batting average. His wins have come over A&M, Nebraska, TCU and Oregon.

Max Rosing (2009 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) has helped SUNY-Cortland get off to an 8-1 start. He is hitting .435 with five doubles, one home run and 12 RBIs.
Dickinson’s Ryan Kramer (2009 Team One North, 2009 Baseball Factory National Tournament) has been outstanding so far this season. The RHP is 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA and hitters are batting a meager .164 against him.

Luke Clements (2007 Baseball Factory Premium Video Program) was named the Great West Conference’s Player of the Week. He hit safely in all of Houston Baptist’s games last week, boasting a .429 average with two doubles, four runs scored, five RBIs and a stolen base.

St. Mary’s (TX) is being led by two former Factory players. At the plate Mario Maldonado (2008 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) is off to a scorching start with the following line: .432 average, five doubles, one triple, one homerun and 12 RBIs. Rene Solis (2009 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) has gone undefeated on the mound at 3-0 while posting a 1.19 ERA and limiting opposing hitters to a .198 average.

Josh Hyman (2009 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) is leading the entire Southern Conference in hitting. The Wofford slugger’s average is .468 including seven doubles, two triples, three home runs, 15 RBIs and seven stolen bases.

New Mexico State’s Tanner Rust (2006 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) was named the WAC Player of the Week. Rust hit .600 with eight runs scored, four RBIs and 3-for-3 effort in stolen bases during a four game sweep of LaSalle.

LHP Chris Good (2008 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) of Bellhaven (MS) leads NAIA in wins. He is already 7-2 with three complete games on the season.
Frankie Vanderka (2008 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) helped lead Stony Brook to last year’s College World Series. He is picking up this season where he left off with a no-hitter against Fordham. The 2-0 win was Frankie’s second career no-hitter.

Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors went to Michael Vilardo (2010 Team One Midwest). Michael began his college career hitting .333 with three runs scored, three doubles, a home run and six RBIs over his first four games. One of those games was a 10-4 win over William & Mary in which he had three hits and three RBIs.

HIGH SCHOOL UPDATE

Clint Frazier’s (2012 Under Armour All-America Game) Longanville HS defeated Austin Meadow’s (2012 Under Armour All-America Game) Grayson HS team in one of the year’s most anticipated games. Frazier was the star with two HRs and five RBIs on the day. Through seven games he is hitting .600 with six HRs and 18 RBIs. Meadows is hitting .471 with a home run and six runs batted in so far this season.

Brett Morales (2012 Under Armour All-America Game) went 3-0 with a 0.45 ERA to start the season including a five inning perfect game in an 11-0 win over Tampa Bay Tech. He had 11 Ks in the game and had 27Ks in his first 20 innings pitched.

Nick Sucarichi (2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament) also threw a perfect game in a 6-0 win over Plant. He had nine strike outs in the game and it came right behind a complete game victory in his prior start on the mound.

RHP Grant Holmes (2012 Team One Futures) announced his commitment to the University of Florida. Reports have had Grant up 95 mph early this spring.

Gardena Serra’s Dominic Smith (2012 Under Armour All-America Game, 2012 Team One South, 2012 Under Armour  Southwest Tournament Participant) has heated up early again this season. Reports have his average up to .562 with three doubles, two home runs and 13 RBIs through his first few games.

Yukon HS catcher Jonathan Denney (2012 Under Armour All-America Game, Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout & Premium Video Program) has been torching opposing pitchers early in the year. He is reportedly hitting .812 with four home runs and 14 runs batted in despite receiving several intentional walks.
