Alumni Impact #11: Alumni Continue to Contribute

MLB

Josh Donaldson (Under Armour Team One Showcase) is a new name in All-Star contention this year, batting .386 with 11 doubles and three home runs over just 33 games.  

Anthony Rizzo (Under Armour Team One Showcase) jokes with teammates that he will make the defensive play of the year. On May 2nd he did just that, diving over a rolled-up tarp and falling between the tarp and the wall, all the while hanging on for the out. Rizzo also has 13 hits in his last 30 at-bats bringing him to .338 and nine homeruns on the season.

Troy Tulowitzki (Under Armour Team One Showcase) has sent seven deep and has a team-leading 28 RBIs while batting .348 for the Rockies this year despite recent injuries both to his shoulder and leg. This past Sunday against the Rays, Tulowitzki went 3-3 with three RBI’s leading the Rockies to a 9-3 victory.

Justin Verlander (Under Armour Team One Showcase) has been lights-out on the mound. On Sunday he carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning, earning his first shutout since Opening Day and allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out nine. The shutout brought his ERA to 1.55, 4th best in the majors.

MiLB

Pirate’s prospect Stetson Allie (2009 Under Armour All-America Game) has been hurting opposing pitchers’ ERA all season long. In just 29 games, Allie has eight homeruns, eight doubles, four stolen bases and 26 RBI’s.

John Andreoli (2007 Under Armour Southwest Regional) has put on a speed showcase in the Cubs system this year. Batting .343, Andreoli also has three doubles, four triples and 10 stolen bases.

Jayce Boyd (Under Armour Team One Showcase, 2008 Under Armour All-America Game) is batting .381, giving him 28 RBI over 30 games for the Savannah Sand Gnats (Texas Rangers).

Anthony DeSclafani (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) has brought the heat for the Florida Marlins affiliated Jupiter Hammerheads this year. Through six games and 25.2 innings pitched, DeSclafani is 4-1 with a 0.70 ERA allowing just 21 batters to reach base.

Houston Astros prospect George Springer (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout, Cape Cod Classic) has been an offensive powerhouse, crushing 11 homeruns and nine doubles over 32 games this year.

College

For the second week in a row a University of California – Santa Barbara outfielder took home Big West Player of the Week honors. This week Joey Epperson (Under Armour Team One Showcase), a left-fielder, received the honor after a week of leadoff duty in which he went 8-14 with a 1.000 slugging percentage. This impressive work included a 2-run walk off homerun in UCSB’s victory over UCI.

Florida State University’s Stephen McGee (Under Armour Team One Showcase), though playing only three games last week, was named the ACC Player of the Week. McGee was perfect fielding and 2-for-2 throwing out runners; he also batted .444 for the week with a homerun and a walk-off RBI single.

LSU’s Aaron Nola (Under Armour Team One Showcase) received SEC Pitcher of the Week honors after he pitched his fourth consecutive complete game this week against University of Florida. He blanked the Gators for his second shutout of the season. The victory lowered his ERA to 1.92 and boosted his conference-leading strikeout count to 93.

Not to be outdone, Mark Robinette (2009 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament) from Oklahoma State pitched a complete game shutout against Texas Tech, both firsts for Robinette. Throwing 131 pitches, Robinette did not walk a single batter in the effort while striking out seven.

Aaron Brill (Under Armour Team One Showcase) earned Co-Player of the Week honors from the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference for Felician College.

In his nine starts this season, Dale Innes (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) is 6-2 with 103 strikeouts including wins in his last four starts.

In his first season for Lancaster Bible, Matt Taliercio (Under Armour Team One Showcase) has struck out seven batters in his 7.1 innings pitched.

Frostburg’s Kevin Kean (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) is batting .424 with 15 doubles, three triples, and 38 RBI’s.

Joe Battaglia (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) from Sterling (Kansas) is leading his team in batting average (of those with more than 15 games) at .428. With his 74 hits, 11 doubles, 10 homeruns and 61 RBI’s.

From Menlo College, Jimmy Bosco (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) has a team-high .426 average to go with 23 doubles, two triples, 15 homeruns and 57 RBI’s.
 
Will Dismukes (Baseball Factory Premium Video Program), pitching for Faulkner (Alabama), has tossed 14 games for a total of 89.2 innings.  Dismukes has posted an 11-1 record and a 2.11 ERA. He also averages nearly one strikeout per inning pitched.

Johnnie Kirkland (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout), pitching for the Southeastern University Fire, is leading the NAIA in strikeouts with 119, averaging 10.71 per nine innings.

With two starts last week, Jon Woodcock (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) tossed 18 strikeouts over 11 scoreless innings. In 75.2 innings pitched on the season, Woodcock’s ERA sits at 2.14 and he is second in the country for strikeouts with 108.

Randy Vallejo (Baseball Factory Premium Video Program) from Temple College in Texas leads all Junior Colleges in saves on the year with nine.

High School

Shaun Anderson (Under Armour Team One Showcase) 11-1, 1.10 ERA, 2 shutouts, 85 Ks in 63.2 IP

Zach Farmer (2013 Baseball Factory Top 100) 7-0, 0.39 ERA, 106 Ks in 54 IP with double digit strikeouts in all 8 starts, while hitting .452

Hunter Green (2012 Under Armour All-America Game) 2-1, 0.17 ERA, 1 ER and 89 Ks in 41.2 IP, also batting .418 with 7 HR and 12 SB

Reid Humphreys (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) .419, 11 2B, 11 HR, 32 RBI, 43 R, 11 SB

Jerrel Latham (Under Armour Team One Showcase, Under Armour All-America Preseason Tournament) .400, 10 2B, 3B, 7 HR, 39 RBI, 11 SB, also 5-1 with 1 save on the mound and a 1.14 ERA

Patrick Mathis (Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament) .547, 7 2B, 4 3B, 7 HR, 34 RBI, 9 SB, also 2-1 pitching with 1 save and 51 Ks in 27.1 IP

Brett Morales (Under Armour All-America Game) 10-1, 0.39 ERA, 4 complete games, 100K in 71 IP

Travis Quintanilla (Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament) 11-0, 0.61 ERA, 1 save, 3 shutouts, 128 Ks in 57.2 IP, also hitting .544 with 42 R, 11 2B and 26 RBI

Jacob Ruiz (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) .711, 5 2B, 3 3B, 6 HR, 19 RBI, 22-22 in SB, also 3-0 with 2 saves on the mound

Sati Santa Cruz (Under Armour Team One Showcase) 6-1, 2.66 ERA, 1 SV, 44.2 IP, 77 K, also .426, 6 2B, 6 HR, 24 RBI

Silento Sayles (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) .541, 16 2B, 3 3B, 2 HR, 27 RBI, 103 SB, a national record and set the single-game national record for with 12.

Alex Verdugo (Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament) .506, 9 2B, 7 3B, 7 HR, 39 RBI, 11 SB, also 10-0 with 1 save, 1.31ERA, 113 Ks in 59 IP
