Factory Alumni Among Highly Touted Prospects in this Year’s Draft

The 2013 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft is set to begin this Thursday, June 6 and as such, Baseball America recently released their Top 250 Draft Prospect List. Among the talented prospects to make the cut, 79 high school players are Baseball Factory alumni. Baseball America’s rankings include both top high school and college players. Out of the 79 Baseball Factory high school standouts, 20 of them are predicted to go within the top 40 picks in this year’s draft. Below is a quick take on a few of those 20 players, by position:

LHP/RHP 

Kohl Stewart, RHP, St. Pius X High School, Houston, TX
Projected BA Pick: 6th Overall
Baseball Factory Events: 2012 Baseball Factory Premium Video Program
Scouting Report: Prototypical RH power arm with athleticism, mid 90s velocity and feel for off-speed stuff.

Matt Krook, LHP, St. Ignatius Prep, Hillsborough, CA
Projected BA Pick: 32nd Overall
Baseball Factory Events: 2011 Team One West, 2011 USA Baseball 16U Championships, 2011 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament, 2010 Premium Video Program.
Scouting Report: LHP with an athletic, repeatable delivery who has had big velocity jump this spring- reports up to 95. Throws solid three-pitch mix for strikes.

Outfielders

Clint Frazier, OF, Loganville High School, Loganville, GA
Projected BA Pick: 4th Overall
Baseball Factory Events: 2012 Under Armour All-America Game
Scouting Report: Powerful right-handed stroke with outstanding bat speed. Shows present power. Very quick twitching in all that he does. Run and throw tools also well above average.

Billy McKinney, OF, Plano West High School, Plano West, TX
Projected BA Pick: 27th Overall
Baseball Factory Events: 2012 Under Armour All-America Game, 2011 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament
Scouting Report: Outfield prospect that can flat out hit. Left-handed stroke seems to always result in barrel contact. Uses the whole field, works at bats and flashes occasional power.

Infielders (Includes Catchers) 

Jonathan Denney, C, Yukon High School, Yukon, OK
Projected BA Pick: 23rd Overall
Baseball Factory Events: 2012 Under Armour All-America Game, 2012 Premium Video Program
Scouting Report: Sturdy catching prospect that has feel for the barrel and leverage power in RH stroke. More advanced as a receiver than given credit for and plenty of arm to control running game.

Oscar Mercado, SS, Gaither High School, Tampa, FL
Projected BA Pick: 38th Overall
Baseball Factory Events: 2011 Team One Futures East, 2012 Under Armour All-America Game
Scouting Report: Smooth defensive SS with the range, hands and arm to stay there. Has the look of a #2 hitter and shows the ability to find the barrel against top level pitching.
