Alumni Impact #10: Big Bats Equal Big Stats

MLB

Nate McLouth (Baseball Factory’s Team One Showcase) is sporting an impressive two-week stat line of .432/.523/.676, including a lead-off homerun against the Mariners.

After leaving Baltimore in the off season, Mark Reynolds (Baseball Factory’s Team One Showcase) has seen a resurgent bat, blasting eight homeruns on the young season.

Although he was suffering from a few unusual strikeouts early in the season due to a neck injury, Ryan Braun (Baseball Factory’s Team One Showcase) has come back strong, bringing his numbers back in line with his career averages.

Ian Kinsler (Baseball Factory’s Team One Showcase) takes an 8-game hitting streak into the Ranger’s May 3 game against the Red Sox; over the streak Kinsler has a .441 average. Kinsler even has an April 30th web-gem to his name as he tracked down a hard grounder deep behind 2nd and beat Alex Rios to 1st base on a long throw.

Garin Cecchini (2009 Under Armour All-America Game) continues to dominate the Carolina League and was named Player of the Week for April 22-28. On the season Cecchini is batting nearly .400 with three homeruns, four triples, eight doubles and 10 stolen bases.

While he’s still getting accustomed to Left Field, Nick Castellanos (2009 Under Armour All-America Game) is as comfortable as ever behind the plate crushing three homeruns this week.

Brandon Nimmo (2010 Under Armour All-America Game), though still a “raw” prospect, has put up an impressive .322/.421/.433 stat line this season and is showing significant improvement over his past seasons.

James Gillheeney (Baseball Factory’s Team One Showcase) has smoked nearly every batter daring to step up to the plate this season. Over 29 innings Gillheeney has allowed only 21 hits with 17K’s. His ERA of 0.93 and 1.03 WHIP are among the best in his league.

NCAA

Jimmy Reed (BWI World Series) of University of Maryland has been named the ACC Pitcher of the Week as the lefty threw 69 of 98 pitches for strikes his first career complete game shutout, taking home a 1-0 victory over Duke.

Long Beach State’s Nick Sabo (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryouts) was named the Big West Pitcher of the week. Tying his career-high with five innings pitched, Sabo allowed only three hits against UCLA. Then, later in the week against Cal Poly, Sabo threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings after being called on in the 3rd with the bases loaded and one out. Overall Sabo gave up no runs in 8.2 innings pitched, allowing just 5 hits.

Sean O’Brien (2009 Under Armour All-America Game) from University of Tampa was on fire this week batting .500 from the plate with a triple, six runs and four RBI.

Jon Bengard (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) pitched nine innings for Cal Baptist last week letting up only six hits and one run while striking out 11.

Brian Mauro (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout & Premium Video Program) from DeSales University couldn’t miss, his .733 average last week and four doubles took him over the DeSales single-season record of 24. To top off this feat, Mauro also blasted two homeruns and knocked in 10 RBI.

In High School news:

Nick Ciuffo (2012 Under Armour All-America Game) is batting .507 with seven doubles, one triple, four homeruns, 25 RBI and solid defense behind the plate.

Alex Jackson (2012 Under Armour All-America Game), among the national homerun leaders for a second year, is batting .350 with six doubles, 10 homeruns and 25 RBI

Two-way prospect Derik Beauprez (2012 Under Armour All-America Game, Baseball Factory’s Team One Showcase) has been stellar on the mound with one victory and no losses, a 1.62 ERA, and 14Ks over 13 innings pitched. Beauprez is also solid batting with a .444 average, four homeruns, 15 RBI, and three stolen bases.

Kohl Stewart (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout & Premium Video Program), the Texas A&M QB recruit, solidified his status as a 1st round selection in June’s MLB draft this season tossing 36Ks for a 0.00 ERA and a 3-1 record over 26 innings. He’s also batting .375 with 10 homeruns and 30 RBI.
