2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament: Top 10 2013 Grads

With over 390 players participating in the 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament, powered by Baseball Factory, our scouts were treated to players from across the country that had many tools from blistering foot speed, to rockets for arms on the mound and behind the plate. While we cannot honor everyone that attended we did want to highlight a few players that stood out.

The following are the Top 10 2013 Grads from the 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament.

Kacy Clemens | RHP/1B | Houston, TX | Memorial

Kacy continues to show the type of ability that has made him one of the top national prospects in the 2013 class. On the mound he showed an athletic, repeatable delivery and command of a 3-pitch arsenal. His fastball is heavy and gets on hitters quickly while his breaking ball is sharp and a legit swing-and-miss pitch. As a position player, he is outstanding around the bag at 1B and swings the bat with authority from the left side including a long game HR at this event. Committed to University of Texas.

Zach Winn| RHP | Show Low, AZ | Show Low

Winn is a quality athlete with a clean, easy arm stroke from a low effort delivery. He is balanced and coordinated throughout and pounds the strike zone with a lively fastball that topped out at 93mph. His off-speed stuff shows promise as well with a 10/4 shaped breaking ball with good bite and a sinking change that looks like his fastball out of the hand. Overall, this is a young pitcher with poise, stuff and an exciting arm who has a bright future.

Tyler Huth | RHP | Ft. Wayne, IN | Northrop

Tyler is a big, intimidating presence on the mound (6’8”, 235) with huge potential. He repeats well for a pitcher of his size and gets solid downhill plane on a heavy, sinking fastball. He induces a lot of ground balls and weak contact. His put-away pitch is a hard breaking ball with depth, and he shows some feel with a developing change. Overall, Tyler has the build and stuff of a durable starting pitcher who can produce consistent quality outings. Committed to Purdue.

Anthony Lyons | OF | Arlington, TX | James Martin

Anthony is one of the rarest commodities in the game – a left-handed power bat from a player with speed. Athletic at 6’4”, 220 he ran a 6.87 in the 60 yard dash. He has quick, strong hands to go with the leverage power he generates. There is rhythm to his approach and he remains balanced throughout his swing.  His speed and instincts allow him to project as a very good corner outfielder at the next level. This power/speed combination is exciting and Anthony should develop into a middle-of-the-order bat at the next level. Committed to Texas Tech.

Matt Foster | RHP | Valley, AL | Valley

Matt is another RHP who showed very well in Tucson. He has a strong lower half and a simple delivery that lead to quality strikes. His tailing fastball topped at 92mph and he does an excellent job of keeping it down in the zone. He gets very good rotation on his curveball which has sharp 11/5 action to it. The final pitch of his repertoire is a change that sinks and is thrown with fastball arm speed. Matt is an efficient strike-thrower who is always in command on the mound. Committed to Gulf Coast CC.

Glenn Batson | 3B | Greenville, SC | Greenville

Glenn is an exciting young player with a complete game. At the plate, he takes an aggressive RH swing with bat speed that leads to consistent hard contact. He accelerates the bat head through the hitting zone with strong wrists and hands. Defensively, he reacts well at 3B with a quick first step and smooth, confident actions. His hands are soft and sure, and his quick release combined with arm strength allows him to fit easily on the left side of the infield at higher levels. This is a true baseball player with tools and a feel for the game. Committed to Clemson.

Nicholas Green | RHP | Fountain, CO | Fountain Fort Carson

Green is a very intriguing prospect on the mound. He has an effortless delivery and the ball seems to explode at the plate. He sits comfortably in the upper 80s, touching 91mph in Tucson. He does this with very little lower half or finish to his delivery. His arm is quick and free. He complements his lively FB with a breaking ball and change that are both effective and show promise for the future. There is a lot more in this young man and it will be exciting to watch his progress over the next few years.

Jerrel Latham | OF | Las Vegas, NV | Bishop Gorman

Jerrel is a left-handed hitter that has an outstanding feel for the barrel. Hitting just seems natural to him. He has an advanced approach, uses the whole field, flashes occasional power and is unfazed by velocity or breaking stuff. He is an instinctual athlete in the outfield allowing him to play all three outfield spots presently. His arm is strong and accurate. Overall, Jerrel is the type of young hitter who should adjust quickly at the next level and make an early impact.

Nick Sucarichi | LHP | Lutz, FL | Steinbrenner

Nick is a lean 6’2” LHP with long arms and an excellent breaking ball. He throws from a high ¾ arm slot and gets some downhill plane to his fastball that topped out at 88mph. He shows the ability to get this pitch in to right-handed hitters and he has no fear working inside. His breaking ball is his out pitch with tight rotation and late action. He also mixes in a change that is still developing but shows promise. Overall a LHP with some velocity and command of an effective breaking pitch can get outs at many levels, and Nick is already there with more in the tank.

Joshua Williams | 1B | Toronto, ON | Satec

Joshua is a big (6’5”, 215), strong left-handed hitter with legitimate power potential. He elicits comparisons to Ryan Howard in size, stance and swing. His LH stroke has natural loft and he flashes pull side power presently. The ball comes off his bat very hard, though his swing is balanced and fluid without a ton of effort. Joshua also provides a nice target at 1B and is sure-handed with good feet around the bag. In the future, this looks like a guy that is a run producer and can change the look of the game with one swing. Committed to Dodge City CC.
