Alumni Impact: Factory Players Help Lead Teams to Early Season Rankings

Zane Evans (2009 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament) was named the ACC Player of the Week for helping to lead Georgia Tech to a perfect 5-0 week.  Zane went 3-5 with two home runs and five RBI’s vs. Georgia Southern, and had another HR with three runs scored and two scoreless innings pitching in relief. For the week Zane hit .579 with eight runs scored, nine RBI’s and four home runs.

Reed Reilly (2008 Team One Futures West) is off to a terrific start on the mound.  Cal Poly’s closer has five saves in his six appearances allowing 0 ER in 10.1 IP and striking out 17.

Three Baseball Factory alumni have been instrumental in leading Mt. Olive to a 17-1 start and vaulting them to the #1 ranking in the country for Division II.  Shortstop Michael Mercurio (2008 Team One South) is hitting .422 with 11 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 21 RBI and five SB. Daniel Oliver (2007 Baseball Factory National Tournament Team) is also contributing on offense with a .362 average, six doubles, three home runs and 20 RBI’s. On the mound Matt Dillon (2006 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) is 3-0 with one complete game, a 2.84 ERA and 33 Ks in 31.2 IP.

Sebastian Gomez (2008-09 Team One South, 2009 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament) and Antonio Alvarez (2008 Team One South, 2008 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament, 2007 Team One Futures East) had huge days in Elon’s 24-10 upset of #10 ranked NC State. Gomez went 3-5 with six RBI while scoring a run and stealing a base and Alvarez went 4-4 with five RBI, five runs scored and two walks.

Jake Schrader (2009 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament, 2008 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) was named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week.  Jake is hitting .378 with six 2B, five HR and 19 RBI for the University of Tampa’s #4 ranked team in Division II.

Bucknell University’s Max Kra (Baseball Factory Exclusive College Recruiting Program, 2009-10 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament, 2008 Baseball Factory Cape Cod Select Training)continued the excellent start to his career by being named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. Kra earned his first career save with two scoreless innings of relief to close out a win over Harvard. For the year, he has yet to allow a run in 6.2 innings of relief.

Jeremy Hatley (2009 Baseball Factory Under Armour Southwest Tournament Team, 2009 Team One South, 2009 Baseball Factory Premium Video Program) is off to a hot start for Division III’s 10th ranked team in the country, Birmingham Southern. He is hitting .370 with five doubles and 11 RBI’s to help the Panthers to a 10-3 record.

The Big 12’s Newcomer of the Week Award went to Boomer White (2011 Team One South) of TCU. White hit .625 for the week with four runs scored, three doubles and one home run.

The offense of Trinity (TX) University’s 6th ranked DIII team is led by three potent bats who are all Factory alumni. Center fielder Pat Hirschberg (2006 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) is leading the team with a .472 average with six 2B, four 3B, six HR and 28 RBI. Shortstop Christian Muscarello (2009 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) is hitting .418 with three 2B, one 3B, two HR, nine RBI and four SB while third baseman Kevin Francke (2007-08 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) has chipped in with a .345 average, six doubles, one home run and 14 RBI’s.
