Buxton Leads Appling County to State Finals
2011 Under Armour All-American Byron Buxton, considered by many to be the top player in the 2012 draft class, led Appling County to a double-header sweep of Brantley County in Monday’s Georgia High School State Semi-Finals.
In Game 1, the Appling County Pirates 10-run ruled the visitors from Brantley County in five innings. Buxton pitched a complete game, allowing one hit while striking out 11. He also drove in three runs at the plate and scored the final run of the 11-1 win.
In Game 2, Appling County trailed 4-3 until a 2RBI triple from Buxton gave the Pirates a lead they would never relinquish. Buxton added another triple later in the game, this time with the bases loaded. He finished the game 3 for 4 with two triples and five runs batted in. The 12-6 final completed the sweep, advancing Appling County to the Georgia State Finals where they will face Pierce County this Saturday.
