NATIONAL ROSTER TOPS AMERICAN SQUAD WITH A 6-4 VICTORY AT 2011 UNDER ARMOUR ALL-AMERICA BASEBALL GAME
Game Called in the Bottom of the Eighth Inning Due to Rain at Wrigley Field

Chicago, Ill. – Under Armour and Baseball Factory today announced that the National team topped the American squad, 6-4, in the 2011 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The game marked the fourth consecutive year that Under Armour and Baseball Factory collaborated to present the event. The National team was coached by former Major League Baseball (MLB) manager Larry Bowa, while former MLB infielder Bill Ripken managed the American roster.

The game made it to the middle of the third inning before being delayed due to intense rain in Chicago. After an hour-and-a half delay, play resumed and the teams exchanged runs until infielder Yairo Munoz hit a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth to give the National squad a 6-4 lead. That would turn out to be the winning hit as the game was called due to another major rain storm that hit Chicago.

An MVP was chosen from each roster, with the player being presented with the “Under Armour Silver Spike Award.” Jesmuel Valentin from the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy earned the honor for the game’s winning team, going 2-2 with a single, double, hit by pitch and walk. Baseball runs in Valentin’s family as he is the son of former 16-year MLB infielder Jose Valentin.

Gavin Cecchini from Barbe High School in Louisiana received the award in the losing effort by the American squad. Cecchini scored the game’s first run when he doubled in the top of the third inning, stole third base and then scored on a wild pitch. He also had a sacrifice fly on the day.

In other honors presented at the game, the “Baseball Factory Home Run Derby” was won by the American team’s Lewis Brinson from Coral Springs, Fla. as he hit two home runs in each round to capture the honor. The “Kelly Kulina Award,” named in honor of the late Baseball Factory team member and presented to the player who demonstrates the most heart and enthusiasm, was presented to Carson Kelly from Portland, Ore. He was also a part of the American squad.

The game showcased talent from over a dozen U.S. States, as well as Canada, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Over the first three years of the event, 88 of the 103 draft eligible players who competed in the game were selected in the MLB Amateur Draft, including 18 first round picks.

Baseball Factory scouts thousands of high school players worldwide before selecting the athletes that make the Under Armour All-America Game. From more than 400,000 high school baseball players, only 36 earned distinction as Under Armour All-Americans for 2011. Complete rosters and information on the players for both teams are available at www.baseballfactory.com/allamerica/2011/.

The Under Armour All-Americans experienced four days of festivities that began on Wednesday, August 10 and culminated with the game on Saturday, August 13. For the second year in a row, the game aired live nationally on MLB Network, called by Greg Amsinger and Jonathan Mayo, and via live webcast on MLB.com.
