2011 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Top 5: 2013 Grads

With over 260 players participating in the 2011 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament, powered by Baseball Factory, our scouts were treated to players from across the country that had many tools including sub seven second speed, sub two second pop time and above 89mph velocities. While we cannot honor everyone that attended we did want to highlight a few players that stood out.

The following are the Top 5 2013 Grads from the 2011 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament.

1. Matt Krook | LHP/OF | Hillsborough, CA | St Ignatius College Prep
Matt is an athletic 6’3” lefty who excels as both a pitcher and outfielder. On the mound he carves up hitters with a mix of a tailing fastball that tops out at 88mph and a cutter that he runs into RH hitters. He also shows a slurvy breaking ball with some depth and a change. Matt’s delivery is low-effort, his arm works free and easy and he showed advanced command of all his offerings. His LH stroke at the plate is smooth and his quick hands generate bat speed. Although his ceiling is highest on the mound, he has a chance to be an impact bat at the college level as well. Matt is an impressive young prospect to follow closely.

2. Jarret DeHart | OF | Medford, NJ | Shawnee
Jarret is a physical young OF at 6’2”, 195 lbs. He is athletic in all he does including a solid 7.1 in the 60. At the plate is where Jarret really shines. He has a comfortable, rhythmic approach that, coupled with his strength, leads to plus bat speed from the left side. He drives balls to all parts of the park and looks to be a middle-of-the-order run producer in the future. He is versatile enough to play either corner OF spot and 1B, though his best spot is probably LF at higher levels. Wherever he ends up, his bat will carry him.

3. Billy McKinney | OF | Plano, TX | Plano West
Billy is a LH hitting OF with a solid frame, present strength and an advanced approach to hitting. He is short and quick to the ball with balance throughout his stroke. He drives balls to both gaps while showing flashes of the power that should be a consistent part of his game in the future. In the outfield, Billy shows good instincts, an aggressive approach and an arm with good carry that works at either corner outfield spot. Billy’s natural LH bat makes him a prospect to keep an eye on.

4. Bryce Welborn | RHP/SS | The Woodlands | The Woodlands College Park
Bryce is a two way threat as a RHP and SS. His high energy approach is refreshing and immediately stands out on the field. On the mound, he flashes a consistent high 80s fastball that topped out at 89. He complements his FB with a tight slider that sits in the 80-81 area and a straight change that he mixes in on occasion. He attacks hitters and sets a good tempo to the game. At SS he uses his feet well and moves through balls showing athleticism throughout. He shows plus arm strength across the diamond with on-line carry. At the plate, Bryce shows some bat speed from an aggressive, max-effort approach. Overall, he will be an interesting 2-way prospect in the future.

5. Zac Ryan | RHP/3B | Valparaiso, IN | Andrean
Zac is another young 2-way prospect – RHP/3B. His tall, lean frame is ideal for the mound where he pounds the strike zone with a high 80s fastball. His FB tops at 89 with some run and excellent downhill plane. He also throws a slider with good tilt. As a position player, Zac is a solid 3B with sure hands and a plus arm across the infield. At the plate, he has a level stroke, quick hands and a natural feel for the barrel. He has lots of upside at both spots and merits close following.
