Baseball Factory Alums Bring Home the Awards

Of the 215 Major League Baseball players who are Baseball Factory or Team One alumni, six received Silver Slugger or Gold Glove Awards for their performances in the 2008 season. A Gold Glove award is given to a player who exhibits the best individual fielding performance at each position and in each league. Pittsburgh Pirates’ outfielder Nate McLouth received a Gold Glove Award for his fielding during the 2008 season. He played in 154 games and 1330.3 innings, and had only one error. He also had five assists and a .997 fielding percentage. David Wright also won a Gold Glove award for his performance at third base for the New York Mets. In 159 games and 1433.3 innings, Wright had only 16 errors and a .962 fielding percentage. He also won a Gold Glove award in 2007.

It was not only David Wright’s defensive skills that were recognized in 2008, as he also won a Silver Slugger award, which is awarded to the best offensive player at each fielding position in both the National and American League. Wright scored 155 runs, hit 42 doubles and 33 homeruns, had a .302 batting average, a .390 OBP and he had 124 RBIs. Brian McCann, catcher for the Atlanta Braves, also won a Silver Slugger award.
