FACTORY SCOUTING REPORT Romeoville, IL B.A.T.S. Video Scouting Session & Rookie Session

EVENT DATE: 10/1/05

LOCATION: Brennan Field, Lewis University

On our 2004 visit to Chicagoland (Alexian Field in Schaumburg on October 10) we saw a young right handed pitcher (had only one season of high school baseball under his belt at the time) light up the radar gun with his 91 mph fastball.

Seth Blair (Rock Falls, IL / Rock Falls HS) next drew the attention of USA Baseball scouts during the 2005 USA Junior Olympic Tournament. He was invited to the Youth National Trials in Phoenix, AZ where he went on to make the 2005 USA Youth National Team.

Blair is not the only player on the 2005 USA Youth National Team that attended a Baseball Factory event. RHP Kyle Brule (Chandler, AZ / Marcos de Niza HS) attended our June 2005 PUMA Tryout at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, where he was selected as the #2 prospect. A little over a week after we saw him he was pitching in the Youth National Trials.

Two other players that attended a Baseball Factory event were also selected for the USA Baseball Youth National Team Trials. Later in the summer, both were selected as Top Underclassmen at the 2005 Team One South Showcase.

LHP Forrest Moore (Baton Rouge, LA / Parkview Baptist HS) attended a 2003 Rookie session in Round Rock, TX along with the 2005 Team One South & National Underclass Showcases.

LHP Anthony Ferrera (Riverview, FL / Riverview HS) pitched for us in the 2005 IBC World Series in Florida in late July, after we saw him at the 2005 Team One South Showcase.

After all of that, we are back to our 2005 Chicagoland visit. Our Top Prospects this year are both 2006 graduates.

Top Prospects

The Top Prospects were selected by Jake Weber (Assistant Director of Instruction) based on their performance at the event. The ranking is based on their status as college prospects, and is relative to the entire group of players we saw on the day.

IMPORTANT – We list players at the position(s) where we feel they are prospects. This may result in a player being listed at a position they did not play for us, or having a position they did play for us go unlisted. As usual, all references to “average” are based on high school standards.

1. Jared Fisher, C/RHP, 2006 – Okawville, IL (Okawville HS), 6-4, 205, R/R. A strong bodied C with arm strength. Good transfer and short footwork on his throws, release times as good as 2.09. At the plate he showed some strength in his swing with the ability to drive the baseball to the opposite field. Stroke had some length, but had good life through the zone. On the mound, he had good direction and maintained down angle on his pitches. He topped out at 84 mph (hit 87 mph with a crow hop at our arm strength station), expect to see FB velocity improve. CB and SL were in the strong average range. CH is in developmental stage. Potential 2-way prospect.

2. David Klinnert, OF/SS, 2006 – Perham, MN (New York Mills HS), 6-2, 170, L/R. Upper body strength showed most on his frame. His power was his best tool – he showed the ability to drive the baseball out of the park to the pull side. There was some extra effort in his swing which created length and lift. However, he did show ability to drive baseball up middle with a shorter and balanced stroke. A more relaxed and looser approach will only build on his potential at the plate. His arm strength was slightly above average with occasional carry across the diamond. His left handed bat will be his carry tool, profiles better in the OF right now – a 7.11 runner with a potential strong average throwing arm.
