Team One West: Baseball Factory Helps Players

TEMPE, AZ – The Team One West Showcase in Tempe, Arizona featured hitting, throwing, pitching, and information regarding college programs around the country. The college information came from Team One’s alliance with Baseball Factory – the nation’s premier college recruiting service.

“The Baseball Factory is a partner with Team One and we’re excited about it because we feel Team One is the premier baseball showcase company in the country,” said Rob Naddelman, president of Baseball Factory. “Baseball Factory is the top player development and college placement program in the country for high school players.”

Baseball Factory has 35 fulltime employees with more than 46 years of combined coaching experience at the college level. Former University of Maryland recruiting coordinator Kelly Kulina is one of several Baseball Factory staff that met with players during breaks from the games in regards to their future college dreams and goals.

“Our goal when we have the meeting is to help support Team One players through the services we provide,” Naddelman said. “Do they need help with the college recruiting process? Do they need assistance with one on one training to continue to improve their skills? Or do they need help with getting exposure and playing on national tournament teams, especially if they are in a rural community or small school.

“Since each player is different we are trying to learn what we can do to assist them.”

One of the ways Baseball Factory helps the Team One players is through their Exclusive Program – run by Kulina. According to Naddelman, this program is a hands-on evaluating and recruiting program for top players. Baseball Factory prepares a scouting report and video for each player in the program to send to coaches. All the Team One showcases are video taped by Baseball Factory.

“Our goal is to help the player get into a program that is the right fit in baseball, scholarships, academics, and distance from home,” Naddelman said. “This is different for each player.”

Joe Raleigh, a senior from Westlake (CA) High School, said the experience of meeting with the Baseball Factory representative was an eye-opening experience.

“They helped me a lot by giving me information regarding schools and the recruiting process,” Raleigh said. “With Kelly being a former college coach it will be nice since he can give me feedback on whether I can play Division I or Division II. He can be an inside ear into what the college coaches are thinking.”

The left-handed pitcher is a year younger than most rising seniors because he started school a year early. It did not hurt him academically as he holds a 4.3 grade point average and scored a 1350 on the SAT. Still, he believes younger academic orientated players like himself need a program like Baseball Factory.

“If you are younger you can be less developed strength-wise and height-wise,” the 6-foot-4 hurler said. “They give you the advantages that you miss out on being a year ahead and missing that year of experience and development.”

One of the players at the showcase is Michael Brenly of Notre Dame (AZ) Prep. His dad was not at the showcase – he was in Detroit managing the Arizona Diamondbacks. Joan Brenly brought her son to the showcase and Baseball Factory meetings and walked away impressed with the college information she received.

“There is a lot we don’t know,” Brenly said. “We have a lot of information on scouting and professional baseball, but not college. We are at a first year school, so our coach is finding his way around colleges.

“[Baseball Factory] had most of the answers or could find the answers if they didn’t have them,” she added. “We were impressed that if we need them they will do a nice job.”

Team One director, Jeff Spelman, said that the marriage between the two companies has been a success for the players.

“Before we could get the players in front of huge amounts of college programs and professional scouts,” Spelman said. “Now, we can offer players help in the recruiting process through our relationship with Baseball Factory.”
