Foothill survives California, Faulds

The following article was taken from the Contra Costa Times.  Baseball Factory Player Bryan Faulds has been enjoying an impressive 04 season as a pitcher for California High School.

Bryan Faulds turned in a valiant effort, but the California High School baseball team came up just short in a 2-1 East Bay Athletic League loss to first-place Foothill on Wednesday.

The visiting Falcons (17-4, 3-1 EBAL) entered the game on an eight-game winning streak in which they had averaged 10 runs per game.

Faulds (4-2), though, was undaunted, limiting Foothill to just two runs and eight hits. Neither run was earned as Faulds finished with three strikeouts and no walks.

“Bryan has done a great job all year,” California coach Dave Hamilton said. “Before he was a starter for us, he was always the first guy that I’d go to if I wanted to stop a team from scoring. He’s throwing the ball real well right now and just continues to get better.”

Foothill got on the board in the first inning when a mishandled fly ball put a runner on second base, and Kyle Barker delivered an RBI single for a 1-0 lead.

One run has pretty much been all the support Falcons ace Brad Bergesen (8-0) has needed this season.

However, the Grizzlies (11-6, 2-2) broke through in the bottom of the fifth to tie it 1-1. Chris Rogers belted an RBI double to plate his brother, Tyler, who had walked.

The game remained tied into the top of the seventh when fielding errors allowed Foothill’s first two batters to reach base. Adam Greenaway then stroked a one-out single to left field to score the winning run.

Eric Hengehold relieved Bergesen with two outs in the seventh and earned his first save when Tyler Rogers flied out to the warning track in center field.
