2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament: 2013 Grad Honorable Mentions

With over 390 players participating in the 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament, powered by Baseball Factory, our scouts were treated to players from across the country that had many tools from blistering foot speed, to rockets for arms on the mound and behind the plate. While we cannot honor everyone that attended we did want to highlight a few players that stood out.

Below are the 2013 Grad Honorable Mentions from the 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament.

Players are listed alphabetically.

Emilio Abreu | SS | Linden, NJ | Linden – Abreu is an athletic young infielder with active feet, sure hands and the ability to make plays on the run. His RH swing has some whip to it and his level stroke allows him to find the barrel consistently.

Corey Bird | OF | Elkview, WV | Herbert Hoover – Corey has a very intriguing mix of tools. His LH stroke is clean and direct, leading to line drives to all fields. His speed (6.78 in 60) and arm strength allow him to play all three outfield spots. He plays hard and shows quality instincts as well. Committed to Marshall

Travis Blue | SS | Orange, CA | Orange Lutheran – Travis is a smooth shortstop with outstanding defensive actions. He has sure hands, quick feet and an accurate arm that make him extremely dependable. His right-handed swing is simple and clean resulting in line drive contact.

Bailey Chesser | RHP | Pinson, AL | Pinson Valley – Bailey is a tall, lean RHP with a loose arm from a tough ¾ arm slot. He throws three pitches for strikes with a sinker/slider/change combo. He has serious upside. Committed to Auburn

Kent Corso | OF/RHP | San Antonio, TX | O’Conner – Corso is a strong 2-way player who flashes abilities at both spots. His RH swing is strong with hard line drive contact as the frequent result. He plays with energy and profiles as a RF on defense. On the mound he shows off his arm strength challenging hitters with his FB that touches 90.

Connor Donovan | RHP | Yardley, PA | The Pennington School – Connor is a physical young athlete (6’3”, 200) with a very clean, loose arm. The ball comes out of his hand easy and there appears to be a velocity jump on the horizon. He also shows the ability to spin a breaking ball and has 2-way potential as a 3B who can swing the bat.

Taylor Field | C | Newton, IA | Newton – Taylor is an excellent prospect at the premium position of catcher. He has quick feet, sure hands and an accurate arm – getting the ball to 2B as low as 1.89. He shows a good bat path and the ability to hit quality pitching, while adding instincts and athleticism to his game as well.

Nikolaos Gifford | SS | Murphy, TX | Prestonwood Christian Academy – Gifford centers balls consistently with his quick, strong left-handed stroke. His athleticism allows him to play all over the field and he projects to be an impact guy at the next level.

Nile Goings | OF | Marietta, GA | Osborne – The ball comes off of Nile’s bat loudly. He has a coordinated, strong swing that generates a lot of hard contact. His hands are very quick and he has outstanding control of the barrel. He profiles best as a middle-of-the-order left fielder.

Garry Gwaltney | OF/RHP | Buford, GA | Mountain View – Garry is a legitimate 2-way player with usable ability both in the outfield and on the mound. As a position player he has a rhythmic LH swing and a feel for the barrel. As he matures he should fit the RF profile. On the mound, he has a clean arm stroke, mid to upper 80s velocity and good fell for his off-speed stuff.

Bradley Jones | SS | Travelers Rest, SC | Travelers Rest – Jones is a quick-twitch, dynamic athlete who plays shortstop. He shows excellent range with an aggressive approach and plenty of arm strength for the left side of the diamond. He accelerates the barrel through the zone, and combined with 6.66 speed, he is an offensive threat.

Jacob Leathers |C | Parker, CO | Regis Jesuit – Jacob is a solid all-around catcher. He has the quality combination of line drive swing using the whole field and a complete defensive package with an advanced ability to receive. The leadership and game awareness elements are also present.

Eric Lee | RHP | Tifton, GA | Tiftarea Academy – Eric oozes projectability. He has a tall, lean frame and a fluid, easy delivery. While he sits comfortably in the low to mid 80s presently, there is much more velocity in him in the future. He also has an advanced feel for his off-speed offerings and should have a very bright future.

Matt Maas | UT | Austin, TX | Vandegrift  – Maas is a big, strong young player who can play multiple positions. He swings the bat with authority with legitimate RH power. He is playable behind the plate, though he may fit best as a 1B at the next level. He also shows mid 80s velocity and a feel for a breaking ball on the mound.

Brandon Martinez |OF | River Edge, NJ | River Dell Regional – Brandon is a dynamic, quick-twitch athlete. His 6.75 speed and instincts play in center field, while his right-handed stroke is clean and simple. He can handle the bat and has the makings of a true centerfielder who can hit at the top of the order.

Skylar Mercado | SS | Bronx, NY | Archbishop Stepinac – Skyler has an excellent set of tools. He ran a 6.77 in the 60 and showed soft hands with fluid actions and plenty of arm strength at shortstop. As a hitter, the ball jumps off his bat and he flashes present power that will continue to grow. Committed to University of Maine

Randy Perez | SS | Bronx, NY | James Monroe – Randy is a physical young infielder with outstanding tools. He generates bat speed in his RH stroke with flashes of power, has excellent hands and a strong arm in the infield and ran a 6.83 in the 60. Committed to Florence Darlington Tech

Alex Robles | RHP | Tucson, AZ – Alex is an athletic RHP who also plays shortstop. On the mound he has a coordinated, balanced delivery that leads to a lot of strikes and a fastball that touched 91. He goes right after hitters and throws strikes with all of his offerings.

Austin Schnabel | RHP | Scottsdale, AZ | Notre Dame Prep – Austin has an outstanding pitcher’s frame (6’5”, 200), an upper 80s tailing fastball and a great idea of how to attack hitters. He is just scratching the surface of his ability and is a prospect to follow closely.

Logan Sepanek | OF | Highland Village, TX | Marcus – Logan is a physical young outfielder with a solid all-around game. His RH swing is coordinated and consistent, and he is a quality defender on the corner outfield spots. His projectable frame and ability to hit are indicators that he is a prospect to watch.

Luis Silverio | OF | Parkland, FL | Douglas – Luis has loose, easy actions on a projectable frame. His swing produces excellent barrel whip and he flashes the power that will become a regular part of his game as he matures. A good athlete, Luis has an impact bat for the next level.

Hunter Simmons | OF | Mountain View, CA | St. Francis – This big, strong right-handed hitter makes consistent loud contact. He generates leverage power and drives the ball to all fields. He has a feel to hit and is athletic enough to play both corner outfield spots and first base.

Eric Stahl | RHP | Lilburn, GA | Providence Christian – Stahl is an athlete on the mound with a repeatable delivery and a quality 3-pitch mix. His tailing fastball touches 91 and he complements that with a slider and change that he throws for strikes. Committed to Young Harris

Carlos Tarrats | OF | Jacksonville, FL | William M. Raines – Carlos is an excellent athlete with game changing speed (6.5 in the 60). He patrols CF with ease and uses his legs well. He is a disciplined hitter with a short, quick RH stroke that is unfazed by velocity.

Sean Thompson | RHP | Southlake, TX | Carroll – Sean is a solidly-built RHP with arm strength. He is aggressive with his fastball, attacking hitters with that upper 80s/low 90s offering. He also has a feel for his change and throws a breaking ball with sharp bite that acts as his out-pitch. Committed to Texas Tech
