2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament: Top 15 2012 Grads Honorable Mentions

With over 325 players participating in the 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament, powered by Baseball Factory, our scouts were treated to players from across the country that had many tools including sub seven second speed, sub two second pop time and above 89mph velocities. While we cannot honor everyone that attended we did want to highlight a few players that stood out.

The following are the Top 15 2012 Grads Honorable Mentions from the 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament.

Players are listed alphabetically.

James Bunn | OF | Princeton, NJ | The Pennington School
James is a good athlete with some present strength and solid tools across the board. He runs well and covers a lot of ground in the outfield and is aggressive at the plate and on the bases.

Collin Carroll | 1B | Ridgeland, MS | Ridgeland
Collin is a big, physical 1B with a strong frame (6’3”, 206). He swings the bat with authority showing legitimate power especially to the pull side. Athletic enough to play the OF he is very comfortable around the 1B bag.

Jake Cowger | 3B | Clovis, CA | Clovis
Jake is a polished 3B with fluid actions, sure hands and plenty of arm across the diamond. As a hitter, he shows a natural, rhythmic approach that leads to hard contact and pull-side power.

Frank D’Agostino | 1B | Monroe, NJ | Monroe
Frank is a strong left-handed hitter with quick hands and legitimate power. He makes loud contact and uses the entire field. In the field he is solid around 1B and can play the corner OF spots as well.

Cory Eller | RHP | Niceville, FL | Niceville

Cory is a competitor on the mound who attacks hitters with three pitches that he throws for strikes. His FB touches the 88mph and his curveball is a swing-and-miss pitch with depth. A tailing change finishes off his repertoire that was very successful in Arizona.

Justin Flores | C | Fresno, CA | Clovis West

Justin is a solid all-around catcher with good catch-and-throw skills. His quick release and arm strength had his throws to 2B as low as 1.90. He is a quality receiver with a quiet body and soft hands. At the plate his balanced approach and bat speed lead to consistent contact and flashes of power.

Michael Gillespie | RHP | Cockeysville, MD | Boys Latin
Michael has a quick arm that results in good velocity on his tailing fastball. He was up to 91mph in Arizona and continues to be aggressive in his approach. He complements his FB with a short, tight breaking ball and a quality change.

Zach Lain | 2B | Cheyenne, WY | Cheyenne Central
Zach is a gamer with outstanding instincts who profiles as an offensive 2B. He has a strong frame and a great feel for hitting. He finds the barrel consistently and has some juice. In the field, he is a fundamentally sound defender with plenty of range for 2B.

Tyler Lecoque | RHP | Barnegat, NJ | Southern Regional
Tyler has a balanced delivery and loose, easy arm action that leads to upper 80s velocity with some late life. His curveball has good tilt and throws a change with some sink. He likes to work quickly and attack hitters.

Alex Lee | 1B | Heflin, AL | Cleburne County
Alex is a commodity that is in high demand – a big, strong left-handed hitter with power. He drives balls to all fields with a coordinated stroke that generates bat speed. In addition, he shows good hands at 1B and even touched 88 on the mound with good secondary stuff.

Hunter McIntosh | RHP | Columbus, IN | Columbus North
Hunter throws a fastball that touches 88mph but seems to explode at the plate and gets on hitters quickly. He complements that with a sharp slider and developing change. This young pitcher spots his FB well enough to retire hitters at many levels.

Rey Perez | SS | Montverde, FL | Montverde Academy
Rey is a switch-hitting shortstop with advanced actions and soft, sure hands. He has a quick first step and makes plays look easy. At the plate he has a contact bat that should fit nicely in the #2 hole at the next level.

Jack Simons | OF | Great Falls, VA | Bullis School
Jack fits the profile of a corner outfielder and a future middle-of-the-order run producer. He is short and quick to the ball with pull-side power. Defensively, he moves through balls well and shows good instincts.

Christopher Sims | OF | Stockbridge, GA | Stockbridge
Christopher is a physical young man with a ML body (6’2”, 215). His game is a bit raw at present, but he possesses some excellent tools and has a high ceiling. He generates outstanding bat speed and flashes pull power at the plate and we’ve seen him use his 6.86 speed to patrol the outfield.

Graham Wick | OF | Lake Forest, IL | Lake Forest Academy
Graham is a tall, lean athlete who can play either corner outfield spot. He is an instinctual player who reads balls well of the bat and has plenty of arm to play RF. At the plate he shows a polished approach with a quick bat and will develop future power.
