11 Baseball Factory Alumni Named to 2013 MLB All-Star Game

This year’s Major League All-Star game is set to take place on Tuesday, July 16th, at Citi Field in New York. Baseball Factory is proud to announce that 11 of this year’s All-Stars are Factory alumni, having come through our program en route to baseball stardom!

Factory alumni JJ Hardy and Jose Bautista earned starting positions for the American League team this year, along with RHP Justin Verlander. Troy Tulowitzki, David Wright, and Bryce Harper make up the Factory alumni starting for the National League team.   In addition, several of our alumni will serve as reserves in this year’s game including the AL’s Jason Castro and Prince Fielder, as well as Allen Craig, Michael Cuddyer, and Brian McCann on the National side.

Washington National’s phenom Bryce Harper, just 20 years of age, will become the youngest player in NL history to start in an All-Star Game. It is his second All-Star appearance in two seasons in the MLB, and despite missing 31 games this season due to injury he was voted by the fans to start.  Harper also competed in the Home Run Derby, putting on an impressive display of power only to fall short to Yoenis Cespedes in the finals.

Detroit Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder will be playing in his 5th Midsummer Classic.  Like Harper, Fielder took part in Monday’s Home Run Derby. Though he was unable to defend his title, Fielder remains the only player to join Ken Griffey Jr. in MLB history with multiple Home Run Derby Titles. In addition to his success in the Home Run Derby, Fielder was the All-Star Game MVP in 2011.

National League reserve and Braves catcher Brian McCann beat out Dodgers’ rookie sensation Yasiel Puig for the last spot on the NL roster. The spot opened up when Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman broke his thumb. It is McCann’s seventh All-Star selection of his Major League career.

This year’s Midsummer Classic promises to be a great game, packed with the most talented players from across MLB.  We are proud of all of our alumni who have Built Their Way to Greatness at the highest level of the game.  Tune in to see the 2013 All-Star Game at Citi Field, tonight at 8pm ET on FOX.
